Description

jabbaIRC is a simple IRC client written in Java/Swing. Which makes it cross-platform and waaay too slow for it's own good :)

jabbaIRC is still alpha and under development, although it is already pretty functional as it is. At this stage it even can be used by casual users, I think. :)

The configuration is stored in:

(your home directory)/.jabbaIRC/config

Note: first command line parameter (if any) will be used as config file directory.

jabbaIRC requires Sun J2RE 1.4 or compatible (it uses XMLEncoder and some other stuff not present in J2RE 1.3 or less)

Running

I've been asked this question a few times, so I decided to add a section here.

jabbaIRC is not an applet, it is a stand-alone Java2 application. This means, that you don't need a browser to run it.

  • Step 1: Get J2RE (Java2 runtime environment) 1.4 for your platform. Sun is a good place to start.
  • Step 2: Install the J2RE.
  • Step 3: Run it like that:
    java -classpath <path to rt.jar> -jar jabbaIRC.jar

If you use Windows (like me on my desktop) I recommend looking at runJar.cmd in the distribution :)

Features

  • Complete multi-server support: per-server on-connect perform sections, auto-connects, etc.
  • Complete GUI configuration (most features are configurable from command prompt)
  • Many of the IRC client basic features are done (like window logging, etc.)
  • More or less implemented plugin architecture
  • Nice and shiny Swing interface ;)

Note, that this program is generally some way for me to spare free time, so don't expect me to implement your feature-request immediately. And don't forget to look in the TODO list.

Anyway, patches, bug reports and feature-requests are always welcome. Don't tell me, that jabbaIRC's source is awful. I know that. It was my first Java program. :P

If you like my client you can also send me something Bulbasaur-related. I like the damn beasts in any possible form. Note: 100meg avi in my mailbox is considered impossible form.
